FilePoppy The Record

FilePoppy Capture for Mac

Your texts join the file. Your Mac does the work.

FilePoppy Capture is the small Mac app that sends each transaction's text messages, photos included, to your FilePoppy file. Your message database itself never leaves this Mac - only the conversations you choose, for the transaction you choose.

Download for Mac (Apple silicon - M1 or later, late 2020 onward)

Download for Intel Mac (2020 and earlier Intel models)

Already installed? Open FilePoppy Capture

If a "can't connect" page appears instead, FilePoppy Capture is not open right now - open it from your Applications folder and its page appears in your browser on its own.

First time? The step-by-step Setup Guide walks you through everything

Not sure which? Click the Apple menu at the top left of your Mac's screen and choose About This Mac. If you see the word Intel, use Download for Intel Mac. If it says Apple M1 or later (M1, M2, M3, M4...), use Download for Mac (Apple silicon). Picking the wrong one is harmless - the app simply will not open, and you can come back for the other. Between them, the two downloads cover Macs going back to about 2012 (anything running macOS 10.15 Catalina or newer).

Setting it up - about two minutes

  1. Install it. Click the downloaded file in your browser's downloads. A window opens showing FilePoppy Capture next to an Applications folder - drag the app onto that folder, the way Mac apps install. Then open FilePoppy Capture from your Applications. The first time, your Mac may note the app was downloaded from the internet and ask if you are sure - click Open; it asks this of every new app. A FilePoppy Capture page appears in your web browser - that page is the app.
  2. Connect it to your phone. In the FilePoppy app on your phone, go to Settings and tap Connect a Mac - it shows your connection code. Type that code into the Connection code box on the Mac and click Connect this Mac. You only ever do this once. (Signed in to filepoppy.com/app on this Mac? Its Settings screen connects this Mac with one click - no typing.)
  3. Let it read your Messages. The first time you load conversations, a card titled "One-time permission needed" appears with a button that opens the right page of System Settings (Privacy & Security, Full Disk Access) - turn on FilePoppy Capture there, then quit the app and open it again. Apple requires this one-time step of every app that reads Messages - it is how your Mac makes sure YOU decided. FilePoppy never sends your message database anywhere; it reads it right there on your Mac.

Then, for each transaction

Pick the transaction, tick the conversations that belong to it - your client, the other agent, the escrow officer - and press Save - texts flow automatically from here on. That is all. From then on your Mac sends the new texts from those conversations, photos included, to FilePoppy on your phone and on the web every 15 minutes, with nothing else to click. Come back only when someone new joins the deal: tick their conversation and press Save again.

Requirements: a Mac signed into the same Messages account as your iPhone, with Text Message Forwarding on. That is the setup most people already have. Both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs are supported - pick the matching download above.
